Requirements to become a Volunteer Firefighter.

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a current driver’s license

Does it cost anything to become a Firefighter?

  • No – All training and equipment are covered by the department.

Do I need prior experience or training?

  • No, we will provide you with all necessary training.

What training is required to become a Firefighter?

  • You will be required to complete the following:
  • Incident Command 100, 200, 700, 800 (These are online)
  • 16 Hour Introductory to Fire Service
  • 64 Hour Basic Firefighting
  • To enter a burning building you will need to complete Live Burn @ the TN Fire Codes Academy in Bell Buckle TN.
  • There are many optional classes/trainings you may choose to complete.
  • ALL APPROVED TRAININGS ARE PAID FOR BY THE DEPARTMENT

How much time will it take? Can I still have a full time job?

  • Your first few months are training heavy, but after the initial training you are only required to attend Vanessa K Free (state mandated training for all first responder and law enforcement agencies) and EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course).
  • Monthly trainings are held twice monthly on the second Saturday @ 8a and the following Monday @ 6pm at the Main Station on King Ridge Road.

  • We all have jobs and families and respond as we can. Some of our people work out of town and make it work.
