Help Support Your Local Firefighters
Thank you for your consideration in making a donation to the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department. Our department is 100% volunteer. We are a county-wide department with 11 substations located across rural DeKalb County. We have 70 volunteer firefighters.
Operating a department of this size takes a lot of funding. We do not charge for any of our services. Our funding is primarily through the tax revenue. The county funding basically allows us to pay for insurance, fuel, and vehicle maintenance. As a result, we conduct several fundraising events each year to supplement our county budget and to allow us to purchase much needed equipment. One of our largest fundraising events is our food booth at the Smithville Fiddler's Jamboree and Crafts Festival. In addition to volunteering their time to respond to emergencies and attend essential training, our volunteers work tirelessly to raise funds to make our department operate efficiently.
Our volunteers provide fire protection, fire prevention and education, vehicle rescue, and medical first response to the citizens of DeKalb County. Much of our equipment has either been donated from other larger departments or acquired through federal and state grants. We have been fortunate in the past to receive tremendous community support and we rely on this continued support to make our jobs of protecting our communities successful.
